The battery of the tire pressure sensor

Date:2025-04-28 Click:

The battery life of a tire pressure sensor is affected by multiple factors. The following is a detailed introduction and the method to determine whether the battery needs to be replaced:
Factors affecting battery life
Usage frequency: If the vehicle is frequently used and the tire pressure sensor keeps working, it is necessary to constantly monitor the tire pressure and transmit data. This will accelerate the battery's power consumption and thus shorten the battery life. For instance, in operational vehicles such as taxis, due to prolonged driving, the battery life of their tire pressure sensors is often shorter than that of ordinary family cars.
Working environment temperature: Extreme high or low temperatures can have adverse effects on battery performance. In a high-temperature environment, the chemical reactions inside the battery accelerate, which can easily lead to battery aging. In a low-temperature environment, the activity of the battery will decrease, the battery capacity will shrink, and thus the battery life will be affected. For instance, for vehicles used in hot desert areas or cold polar regions, the battery life of their tire pressure sensors may be significantly affected.
Data transmission frequency: Some tire pressure sensors will regularly transmit tire pressure data according to the set frequency. If the data transmission frequency is high, the battery power consumption will also increase accordingly. For instance, in order to provide more real-time and accurate tire pressure information, the tire pressure sensors of some high-end models may increase the data transmission frequency, which will cause the battery to drain more quickly.
Battery quality and type: Batteries of different brands and qualities have differences in performance and lifespan. Generally speaking, batteries of good quality and large capacity can provide a more lasting power supply. At the same time, different types of batteries, such as lithium batteries and button batteries, have different characteristics. Lithium batteries usually have a higher energy density and a longer service life, while button batteries may be more suitable for some miniaturized tire pressure sensors, but their capacity is relatively smaller.
The method for determining whether the battery needs to be replaced
The tire pressure monitoring system of modern vehicles usually gives a prompt message when the battery power is low. This could be due to a specific indicator light on the dashboard coming on or a warning message displayed on the vehicle information screen, indicating to the owner that the battery power of the tire pressure sensor is insufficient and the battery needs to be replaced in time.
Check the accuracy of the sensor data: When the battery power drops, the tire pressure sensor may not work properly, resulting in inaccurate or unstable measurement data. If you find that the tire pressure monitoring data deviates significantly from the actual tire pressure, or if the data frequently fluctuates or is lost, in addition to checking whether the sensor itself is faulty, it may also be caused by insufficient battery power, and it is necessary to consider replacing the battery.
When estimating usage: Generally speaking, the battery life of a tire pressure sensor is about 3 to 5 years, but this is only a rough reference range. If the vehicle has been in use for a relatively long time and is approaching or exceeding the expected service life of the battery, even if there are no obvious symptoms of malfunction, it is advisable to consider checking the battery level or directly replacing the battery to ensure the normal operation of the tire pressure monitoring system.
Use professional testing tools: Some auto repair shops or professional testing equipment can test the battery power of the tire pressure sensor. By connecting to the vehicle's diagnostic interface or using a dedicated tire pressure sensor detection tool, the battery power information can be read to accurately determine whether the battery needs to be replaced.
